“I hear, from the doorstep, you can see all the way to the Russian Tea Room.”

Thumbs-up to his speechwriters. Barack is no comedian, but he does a good job with the material. My favorite part (mostly because he channels Barney from HIMYM):

If I had to name my greatest strength, I guess it would be my humility. My greatest weakness: it’s possible that I am a little too awesome.

Update: McCain was pretty funny, too.

I was glad that I caught the roast last night. It was pretty funny. McCain went out of his way to say nice things about Obama. Obama kept it real and did the standard “…good service to our country..” about McCain. I LOVED THAT!

I actually thought McCain’s was funnier. Maybe because, if you’re the underdog, you have more room to joke at yourself.

QM: I totally agree. Obama was fine and all, but McCain kinda rocked it. His material was much funnier, and he had a great delivery. I loved how the camera kept going back to Obama’s face during McCain’s speech. O was cracking up. And so was I. It was nice to have one evening of civility.

Yeah, you ladies are right. McCain seemed more relaxed than Obama. I don’t think his material was better, but the delivery certainly was excellent. I can see why it’s been so hard for reporters to get off the tire swing.

And Hillary was laughing so hard I thought she’d stroke out.

Yeah, I especially liked McCain’s last few minutes promising hilarity from Obama. And I’m not going to lie, I kind of cringed a bit on the “I’m a little too awesome” joke.

I thought McCain was better too. But, like you said, he has a bit more to make fun of, lol.

However, I am pretty sure the next time I am in a job interview and someone asks me a weakness, my reply will be, “It’s possible I’m a little too awesome.”

La- how do you think I got my current job??

Three cheers to the people who wrote the jokes, but his delivery was *awful*.

I thinks part of Obabma’s problem with those jokes is the fact that he actually is more impressive than a decent chunk of people in that room. Self deprecating humor doesn’t work as well when people aren’t sure if you are serious or not.
