    That’s just gorgeous, devastatingly poignant writing. It’s not often a person can step outside of themselves, especially when they’re on the other end of a chokehold.

    And to an extent, we all do it. Or at least I do. We make assumptions, form prejudices, dream up biographies for folks off of one glance. That’s just life. But that doesn’t make it right.

    To that end, we should dead ourselves of the “never get a second chance to make a first impression” line of thinking. To borrow a bit from Marion McClinton, by doing that, how could anyone ever notice another’s humanity, equate their hopes and dreams to anything having to do with ours?
