Nas and Kelis.

A lot of people seemed surprised by the $44,000 a month in child support Nas was ordered to pay Kelis as part of their divorce settlement. But when you factor in the cost of a HoverCrib, the CarPlane and unicorn milk, it really isn’t all that much. (Also, diapers.)

Did you just type, “unicorn milk?!” Yes. Yes, I believe you did. *Awesome.*

Meanwhile, what must Nas be worth for him to afford that–and based on *what?!* Belly royalties?

Dude, that’s exactly what I was thinking. How can he afford that?

this makes me sad–they had the prettiest wedding! What about their Atlanta home, where they bought the houses on either side, allegedly so that, um, their loud lovemaking wouldn’t disturb the neighbors?

she hates him/so much right now….AHHHHHHHH!!!

    Lol. Good one, Molly.

I was hoping listening to Illmatic and watching “Milkshake” would get the taste of that photo out of mouth. No such luck.

Well, look. The deal with child support payments is that they’re based on the father’s income and the standard of living that the couple enjoyed up until the split. Why *shouldn’t* he pay that much, assuming that he can afford it?

I dunno. She’s a celebrity who probably has her own wealth, too.

It’s not about what *she* can afford. It’s about *his* responsibility to his kids. Too many people think that child support has something to do with the mother’s financial situation, or that it’s money paid “to her.” It isn’t.

    • blackink12 July 24, 2009 at 7:29 pm Reply

That’s the thing … I have no idea how he can afford it. To paraphrase Obama, without knowing the details, that seems like an awfully high amount of monthly child support.

And G.D. … is she really a celebrity?

      • G.D. July 24, 2009 at 9:35 pm Reply

right. what do you think Nas brings in a year? a million before taxes? (i’ll never understand music industry finances.)

And yeah, she’s definitely a celebrity. She wrote the worst song ever recorded.

I play the HELL out of this when I’m getting ready to go out, or when I need a little boost. Hater.

I’m still shocked over that amount. But kudos to her attorney for getting that amount immediately after birth.
